Catholic Schools Week

Join us in celebrating Catholic Schools Week January 26 - February 1! The Nebraska Catholic Conference is proud to advocate for over 27,000 students in our 113 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Omaha, Diocese of Lincoln, and Diocese of Grand Island. Our students consistently excel in academic, athletic, and extracurricular endeavors; our teachers and staff go above and beyond their call to serve; and our schools educate students from families of all racial, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds.

Archbishop George Lucas reminds us what truly sets Catholic schools apart:

"For generations, our Catholic schools have been dedicated to the education of the whole person, providing a superior academic program in a respectful community, always with the focus on forming student for life in Jesus Christ. The quality and the success of our schools form a bright chapter in the history of the Catholic community in Nebraska."

National School Choice Week Rally

Next week (January 26 - February 1), school choice advocates across the country with celebrate National School Choice Week. Here in Nebraska, we will be rallying with hundreds of students and teachers at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 29 at 11 a.m. in the Warner Chamber.

School choice champion, Senator Lou Ann Linehan (District 39), says it best:

"Every year, I am inspired by the hundreds of school children from across Nebraska who come to our Capitol to celebrate National School Choice Week. So many students in our state wish to count themselves among those fortunate enough to choose the school that's best for them. We rally together to celebrate those families that have that choice, and to give a voice to those who don't."

Please come rally with us and make your voice heard!

Pro-Life Mass and Walk for Life

On Saturday, January 18, join thousands of pro-life advocates to pray and peacefully protest the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the fundamentally unjust U.S. Supreme Court case that created a so-called right to abortion in the U.S. Constitution. The annual Pro-Life Mass, hosted by the Nebraska Catholic Conference, begins at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Parish (just north of the State Capitol) with our celebrant and homilist Fr. Scott Harter, pastor at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ord, NE.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Nebraska Right to Life will host the annual Nebraska Walk for Life, which begins on the north side of the State Capitol and, after marching down 14th Street, continues at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Student Union where a program and keynote speaker will follow.

Day of Prayer

Governor Ricketts has issued a proclamation declaring January 22, 2020, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, as a Statewide Day of Prayer.

Please join us in praying with our families, in our parishes, and as a pro-life movement on January 22, and everyday, for an end to abortion. To read the Governor's press release and proclamation, click here.

Earlier this week, Governor Ricketts declared January Human Trafficking Awareness Month. At the signing of the proclamation, Katie Patrick, Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, represented St. Gianna's Home in Lincoln:

"We have had the privilege of caring for women who have been victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation at St. Gianna's Home for Women....we have become one of the many place of hope for women, and we are continually strengthened by our state, our leaders, and citizens, who support us, so that we can support these women."

The NCC will continue to work with elected officials and private and nonprofit groups to end this modern form of slavery.
